FWIW. Not to thread crap. But. Consider reading some of the user reviews. some troubles. Most consistent trouble - amount of AC electrical power drawn at startup. Dimming lights / tripping BBU (Battery Backup Units). Suggestions to put it on separate / lower use circuit.

FWIW One odd thing. HP's electronic rebate status site isn't up and running, yet. (I did try lower case S, just in case - no good). The rebate form lists that URL and does say to allow 4 weeks before checking rebate status, so maybe they just haven't gotten around to it, yet?

Thanks OP - ActiveX tealk - at this point, it ain't always about the $/GB. Rather, the minimum $ for a new / replacement HD. At 160GB, it is way bigger than many, many millions of people need. Many people are very happy, believe it or not, with only 10GB, 20GB or 40GB. Not exactly power...

Woofmeister, #1 - Thanks, super great post (I think!) #2 - Both links are to Seagate. (Seagate announced buying Maxtor for $1.9B 12/21/2005) Everything looks the same, especially the legalease "Accept" stuff. Apparently, just different versions, enabled for Seagate / Maxtor drives ???
