W2k "leaks" CPU power

OK, it seems that I've solved the problem at least for the time being. I tried stopping every service the Service Manager would let me and after that killing every process the Task Manager allowed to kill, but without success. Eventually I uninstalled the drivers for the CF reader I mentioned...

470 MB User profile on Win2K / Is it normal ?

Do you have lots of stuff in your My Documents folder? In NT-based Windowses the My Documents folder belongs into a user profile, so anything in that folder shows in the profile size immediately.

Thanks for the replies guys! @Electrode No, I don't think it's a task manager bug. As I said, the power loss is visible on i.e. encoding speed. For example; when I had no "power leakage", Musepack encoded about at 12.35x and now it encodes 11.00x That's roughly about 10 % speed loss. Same...

Crunching for SETI with the new computer....

Memory is at CL2 (Turbo mode), 266 MHz. FSB is at quad-pumped 100 MHz and Northwoods have 512 kB's of L2 cache. I guess upping FSB to 133 MHz (thus making the system run at 2.4 GHz and memory at ~350 MHz) could do at least some good. And last but not least, I wasn't aware that the CLI version...

Crunching for SETI with the new computer....

OK, now I'm frightened. I have a 1.8 GHz P4 Northwood with 256 MB's DDR266 memory and I have been crunching my very first WU for 20h and 48 minutes now, and the WU is currently 53.5% done. OS is W2K and I'm using Seti@home GUI client, version 3.07. W2k's task manager indicates that S@H has had...

4G4A+ BIOS Problem

Sorry, but I haven't overclocked my 1.8A processor yet. My problems were with constant BSOD's with the latest BIOS, but as I said, they disappeared with an older BIOS. The original BIOS that came with the board was 24/4/2002, I uploaded it to my personal homepage for you to download...

The EPoX 4G4A+ seems very promising.

I have sad news for EPoX 4G4A series owners. I recently emailed EPoX about the upcoming HyperThreading support regarding the 845G chipset used in 4G4A series. Their reply was saddening, 4G4A series uses the Stepping A 845G chipset and thus will not now or ever support HyperThreading in 3 GHz+...

845G round-up? Is this a dead-issue?

According to Google, 845PE/GE's major difference with 845E/G is the "official" support for PC2700 memory. No AGP8X or anything ultra-fancy like that, the feature set is otherwise identical. I'm not sure about Hyperthreading and 3GHz+ CPU support, but I'm sure we will learn more about that...
