e6600 vs e6700

E6600 heat and OCing issues? I think the heat issues are more along the lines of the way the stock intel cooler is one piece of work to actually get on there correctly. As for OCing...I'm not sure about that. Alot of mobo BIOS are hitting a FSB wall, and that might be a reason for the "poor"...

intel 965 users.........

I have the Intel DG965RY board, but I don't have it setup yet, as my CPU doesn't arrive until September. I haven't really heard much about Intel boards in review sites, either. The only thing I have heard or read about is about the IGP on G965/Q965 boards, but that was from a pre-production...

HORRENDOUS encoding results with Conroe

I noticed that when I use DVDShrink, it doesn't fly through a DVD (ripping/encoding) unless it's about the same size (4.5GB) or smaller. If it is larger, and needs alot of compression, it usually takes a hour or so (using a P4 3.0) to rip/encode to the HD. If you use alot of image...

Hmm...

You could be shorting the motherboard from behind. Double check your standoffs and make sure you don't have an extra one touching any connections. I had that problem once, and found that it was a standoff just barely touching a capacitor line. Once I removed it...*poof* working computer.

That might have been true with Netburst based chips, but not for these. As someone mentioned, people have been getting good O/Cing results using the stock HSF.

Selling for Conroe?

Depends on how far and how exotic a cooling solution you have. I've heard that the i965 Gigabyte board does decent O/Cing, but it's limited, like most 9xx boards by the FSB. I think people have hit limits @ 320 or so. the x6800 (way too expensive) has an unlocked multiplier, which will...

Actually, the price listed for the X6800 is cheaper than newegg's price, if you can find it again. I think newegg had it listed for $1389 and change. Can't seem to find a link to it anymore, though.
