It seems some old (~4-5yr.) SATA drives are not compatible with AHCI either on my new board or in general.

Just installed Win 7 x64 on an Asus M4A87TD EVO (AMD 870) with AHCI enabled in the BIOS before hand.
The problem is that my HD activity is completely unbearable! I mean I can click on the start menu and have to wait a minute! That was with the standard MS drivers. Changing over to the 10.9...

The AMD site has only chipset drivers for much older series and the ATI site only has the RAID driver and a "disk performance utility"....whatever that is.

O.k....this is even embarassing to ask, but where are the AMD motherboard reference drivers on their site? Can someone please link.
Does AMD not design reference drivers?
So, besides the obvious design features of the chipset, the determining factor would be power phases? The more, with the ability to turn them off, the better?
Is it true that a comparable mATX board would consume less power than an ATX?
The way I see it is that if the only difference is in the number of expansion slots (all other outputs: USB, audio, etc. being the same) then power consumption would be the same, right? I mean if there isn't a card...
