Possibly need a new 11.6" laptop

If you're willing to consider 12.5" I can personally recommend the Lenovo X220. Tough as nails and I've been using it as the office loner for several years. Looks and works like brand new after dozens of trips. Swapped in a SSD and run Windows 7 pro 64 bit. Very nice machines and can be had...

ASUS X99 won't allow bootable RAID

Are they 100% plugged into the Intel SATA ports according to the manual? If there is a 3rd party SATA controller on the board.

Windows desktop x SSD endurance

Don't worry about it. The amount of writes it takes to significantly dig into a modern SSDs flash reserves is insanely high. Check the amount of writes via SMART data or the manufacturer's drive utility in 6 months to a year and see how you stand. My guess is you'll have a decade or two left.

mass effect 3 - buy now or wait for dlc bundles ?

It's a great game and the multiplayer is just as good. I had already run through the game a few times before most of the DLC came out. Picked a couple DLC up for that 5-10 dollar range and lost the drive to replay single player again. 515+ hours into multiplayer and a couple weeks of play on...

Just installed Windows on my new SSD! OMG!!!

First time I installed a SSD was early 2009 or so when the X25 first came out. Bought it for a conference room laptop that gives presentations all day. It would bog down during updates, virus scans, etc. That machine still feels damn fast and is sporting the original X25 without trim running XP.

How spoiled are people with SSD's?

Don't need faster/bigger/better motorcycles, processors, video cards, speakers, televisions, etc. Try going backwards. Can always do without but don't want to.

Too much ram.

On your average home computer it's going to be very difficult to try and make use of 16GB of memory. I've got 8GB and have a selection of 4-5 newish games. One or two are played every day and all are played each week. I've usually got 1-2GB unused with Superfetch enabled.

P8P67 PRO issues?

I had this same issue and it was memory related. http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&id=20110109013000847&board_id=1&model=P8P67%20PRO&page=10&count=124 Updated to 1204 bios. Used XMP profile on memory. Cold boot issue went away. On mine it was always the memory error...

My 6950 is TOAST! :( (Updated with XFX response)

That sucks. Did you offer to pay for the repair and XFX still refused? If that is the case I'm going to reconsider XFX for my next card. I'd be heartbroken to see my new card go out like that :(

Corsair Performance 3 Series SSD now available on Newegg. Very pricey!

Way too expensive. For a desktop OS and game volume I'd rather go with RAID 0 of far cheaper drives.

8GB vs 4GB

Go with 8GB. It's inexpensive and memory has been known to make huge swings in price. With 8GB you will likely be ok for several years to come.

SB Overclocking Thread

4.8 game stable. 4.6 Prime stable. Both put max temps right around 70c with a Hyper 212+ with two fans. Have it running at 4.6 until the newness wears off. The 200mhz difference didn't seem to make a discernible difference in BlackOps, BC2, Civ IV, or F1 2010 . Picked up 5-10 fps in these games...

Now that Sandy Bridge is out, anyone still going to buy a Nehalem?

IMO the only brand new hardware worth buying now is right here: Cheap: Socket AM3 triple/quad. Expensive: Socket 1155 Sandy Bridge quads. Best of the Best: Dual socket 1366 server boards. It's actually a very simple landscape now. If your bottom line is affected by your computers performance...
