  1. PC GAMER CPU of the Year: Intel Core i5-8400

I have both an 8400 and 8700k, and truth be told, the 8400 was a champion for gaming. You wouldn't know the difference in 99% of games. Considering price, 8400 gets my recommendation all day long.
  2. 4k Gaming, my impressions of 4k vs 3440x1440

    Currently at 1440p 144hz, can't go back to 60hz. Looking forward to 4k 144hz :)
  3. What temps should I be getting: 8700k with EK Custom loop?

I was wondering the same thing. I'm having similar issues with an 8700k at 5GHz 1.34v with EK SE (slim) 360 rad in the same inwin 303 case and temps under prime hit ~80c, if not just over. If I drop to 4.8GHz 1.29v it shaves a good ~10c off temps to the high 60's. What CPU block are you using...
  4. Coffeelake thread, benchmarks, reviews, input, everything.

Thanks, I tried this but turbo behaviour remains the same - perhaps I'm missing something. I can manually set each core to x40 and adjust settings as suggested, however there is no change.
  5. Coffeelake thread, benchmarks, reviews, input, everything.

I have an i5 8400 in ASUS Strix z370-E and MCE doesn't seem to do anything aside from jacking up the voltages. Tried various settings including manual adjustment, but turbo behaviour remains the same.
  6. i5 8400 Bclk overclocking

Ha I wish. No it runs at 4.1, 4.0, 3.9 depending on the core count. Unfortunately I either can't figure it out, missed a setting to dsync frequencies, or 'Pro clock' isn't what I was hoping it was - like the Asrock boards that had a separate clock generator. I can only get 103 bclk out of it...
  7. i5 8400 Bclk overclocking

So far, the best I can get out of it is 4.1 single core turbo, with 2, 3, and 4 at 4.0, and 3.9 for 6 cores. Memory at 3700 cl14.
  8. i5 8400 Bclk overclocking

Well that's the thing, I'd like to adjust bclk without frying components.. I have NVMe drive installed etc. On another note, I just pushed memory from 3200mhz to 3600mhz CL14 and it didn't even blink. No tweaking at all, it just works, very impressed.
  9. i5 8400 Bclk overclocking

Hi forum, I couldn't get hold of 8700k at launch so have bought an i5 8400 until later in the year. I have an ASUS Strix Z370-E motherboard that states it has 'ASUS Pro Clock Technology that enables up to 432MHz base clock overclocking'. The diagram seems to indicate a dedicated 'Pro clock'...
  10. Gsync doesn't do a damn thing

Do you see any tearing or judder when gaming? No? Then Gsync is working its magic. Without Gsync you will see judder when vsync is ON and fps fall below refresh rate Or with vsync OFF you will see tearing Gsync fixes both of those issues.
  11. Am I crazy for Founders Edition?

I prefer reference too OP, for a few reasons. I've also owned a number of custom and reference designs of the same model and tbh I always find the advantages of custom boards to be far over stated. I always seem to manage decent overclocks on par with most custom designs, and never really find...
  12. guru3dDoom Vulkan Benchmarks

GTX980Ti user here. Vulkan gives me a slight gain of ~3% or so, but it certainly doesn't feel as smooth. It feels/looks like MGPU with poor frame pacing. I take it this is an Nv only feature?
  13. Would It Be Best To Buy An Ultrawide or Just Game 21:9 on a Native 16:9 screen?

I must be missing something. I don't understand why you don't have black bars when running 21:9. There should be a black bar along the top and bottom of screen to fit the 21:9 aspect ratio onto a 16:9 display. Just like running, for example, 16:9 1280x720 on a 4:3 1280x1024 display. There will...
  14. Nvidia Showcase: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is Drop Dead Gorgeous in 4K

I had my doubts but in actual gameplay the Nv method does look significantly better imo. I didn't pick up on it at first, but having a more correct umbra/penumbra really does look more realistic as you navigate around obstacles etc. Aside from quality, it's also very clean in motion with little...
  15. 6700K or 5820K?

Thanks for the link. 6600k aside, those results reinforce the opinion 6700k is better for a gaming rig than 2011-3 alternatives, for both price and performance. Entire platform is cheaper and generally performs on par, give or take a couple % depending on the game, and it should oc higher in...
