hard drive fan - always necessary?

I just got a Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm 80GB with a Bafo USB2 enclosure, but the fan is way too loud. It had me wondering if the fan is really necessary because all I do with it is stream MP3 files. I can even leave the cover off if it's necessary...will the drive eventually get too hot or will...

I'm totally clueless on this one. Whenever I play a DVD movie through my H+, I get random little dots on the screen - even when the movie's paused. They're not huge dots, they're maybe 2x1 pixel, and it kinda looks like a TV with a cheap antenna. The thing is, this only happens with DVD...

Do you think there are other life forms in the universe or are we alone ?

Not only distance, but time should be a consideration, too. Life on this planet has been around for a *very* small amount of time, when you compare it to the age of the universe... :)

Opera (4.02)! Although occasionally, some pages won't load, probably because of some psycho HTML, so I load up IE5.0. The Mozilla nightly betas consume way too much RAM, and Netscape already has one foot in the grave, especially with the version 6 preview releases.
