Lubricant for Power supply 4 pin connectors?

dielectric grease would work as it doesn't conduct electricity, I see it often used in spark plug boots. I am not sure if it would work or not as far as getting the cable on/off easier?

****UPDATE****Looks like a dead hard drive, anything that can be done?

If an IDE cable is plugged in upside down, the mobo won't post which could be why it wouldn't post till you removed the hard drive. The harddrive should spin when powered up though, provides it plugged in of cource

What does INSTABILITY look like? Need help.

The quiting to the desktop sounds like a driver issue. Seams like something happened simmilar driver related when I had a Voodoo3. The GPF sounds like plain crashing. Do you have the latest version of UT? is your video card overclocked? 50C is pretty high, in general I would want to keep it...

RAM overclocking question

its possible, it depends on the ram how high it can go. You could try it and if its unstable just go back to PC100 if you have a 900mhz processor running at 100 (9 x 100 = 900mhz) and you overclock it to 115, it will be (9 x 115 = 1035). Hard to say if it will overclock that much or not, only...

please HELP, building new PC!!

is the CPU fan plugged into the mobo or a PSU plug? try unplugging all the HD & floppy cables from the mobo and try to power on. If the cables are plugged in backwards its not going to post.

Slight pauses in XP Gaming

Just installed windowsXP clean install, all my computer games experiance slight pauses from time to time. The game itself will stop for a second, and then resume. This is kinda a pain online as I will freeze in mid air for a second before resuming. Installed the lastest XP drivers Reinstalled...

WinME -> XP What?

I agree with bevancoleman, I tried to upgrade my brothers 98SE comp to XP because he really just uses it for internet and Half-life.. it worked ok, installed fine, but it had a few quirks. Photoshop always had kernel32.dll complaints, weird one second freezes while playing games, etc Backed up...

All the comps I built were cheaper than prebuilt ones, but mainly because like stated before I recycled some of the parts, and all of the software.

looks like upgrading will get you a better computer, for cheaper. But if it would be upgrading your parents computer, and not yours.. you might just want to get your own.

What would you do if you were in my situation?

Definatly go with the monitor. A nice monitor will last alot longer than the fastest video card / processor When I first got my Sony 19" Trinitron, the fastest video card / processor was a PII 400 and V2 SLI's. Now we have the Athlon XP and Geforces 3s.. and the monitor doesn't need any...

Trouble with Geforce2gts

texture tearing sounds like vsync is off. Try turning it on in the openGL settings. in CS, tweak your config make sure your fps_max is above 75 also, if you have a slower CPU, turn off any 3D sound. It creates a large CPU overhead. Hope this helps!

Mixing different versions of Nvidia detonators drivers

its been done, I used to have a mix set.. but as DocDon said, new drivers every week makes it hard to figure out what is the best OpenGL ICD, which is best for DX etc not really worth the bother for 1-2 more fps
