What to get?

I went from a 7600GT (oc'd) to a 4850. A world of difference is an understatement. My main game is WoW and although my 7600GT can handle that well, the 4850 can handle everything max'd out at my resolution (which is 1440x900). It looks sharper, crisper, and the frame rate pegs at 60FPS...

ATi 4xxx Series Review

6800NU Overclock

If that's unlocked to 16x1/6 pipes, then yes, that's a very good OC. I maxed out at 400/800 3DMark stable once the pipes were unlocked.

Recommended HSF for 939 A64 (winnie or venice)

Another vote for the stock HSF. I've never used a stock cooling solution before, always spending $20-$30 extra with every CPU I'd get for a 3rd party HSF. This time, I went with the 3000+ retail. Very impressed. While I did put AS5 on it, that really isn't very necessary with the high...

Why bother OC'ing?

I also agree it really depends on what you're doing with your computer. If you're just surfing the web, sending e-mail, typing up letters in Word, and playing Solitaire, of course overclocking won't make any noticeable difference. Heck, I can do all that with a 233Mhz computer and it works...

HELP NEEDED: Stock HSF how good for overclocking A64 3000+ Winnie? Plus PSU and IDE lock question

Is stock cooling enough?

The stock HSF I have for my 3000+ winchester is certainly more than enough. I used AS5, but I hear the thermal grease that comes with it is plenty good itself as well. I'm currently at 2.4Ghz at a fairly high 1.55v, and I idle at around 32C and hit around 38C at max load while stress testing...

Budget $500: friend building computer interested in Socket 939s

Hope your friend likes it. Mine has worked out very well for the price. I'm playing with the overclocking now, and am at a modest 8x280HTT (2.24Ghz) with the 133 memory divider. It'll do more, I just have to tear myself away from precious gaming time to figure out and test a nice stable...

This Can't Be Right...My Winnie Can't Be Running This Cool

My stock heatsink (with AS5) hasn't broke 40C at 1.58v (1.6v undervolted a little) with my CPU at 8x285 while Prime95. Idles at 30C, WoW and CS:S at around 34C. Enjoying the stable gaming a few days before I try the 9 multiplier. I expect temps to drop a few degrees C as time goes on too as...

What do you use to Stress test?

I use a short (30min or so) Prime95, and a few runs of 3DMark as an initial test to check that I'm stable. But my "stress test" is 12-18 hours of straight gaming. If it's 100% stable while I game, and temps are good, that's all I care about! :)
