Thanks snouter. All good points.
I will also have online backups (backblaze) of everything. This solution would just be local backups. So i'm hoping WD Red drives will be OK in this situation.
I just need to figure out what drive is actually in the LaCie quadra. I did read somewhere it is...
Thanks jkauff. appreciate the insight.
Good point.. i'll have to see if they support SMART. I'm assuming the Lacie does?
Both the Lacie and WD Red have 3 year warranty. The Macally is only 1 year. So I am considering that.
I already have a nice 4-bay NAS, but i'm selling it because...
Need to get four of one of the selections below. Two will be for continuous storage, the other two for backup. They will contain critical data (photography and design stuff) and will need to be accessed occasionally throughout the week.

My new build has been stable however it restarted overnight and I'd like to investigate a little bit why it did so. I'm hoping it was a windows update, but I'm not sure.
With that said, any suggestions on software that can monitor, as best as possible, why my computer could potentially:

Mfenn, you rock. I've actually fixed the problem since posting this and pretty much lead to the same conclusion as you.
My fix, however, was to ensure the audio is transferred to the monitor by the DISPLAYPORT, instead of usb. This fixed it completely and now I have no pauses/stutters when my...
found it: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4832/the-apple-thunderbolt-display-review/10
this is almost identically what i'm experiencing. However I'm using the older 27" display (non thunderbolt).
hmm, This is the review: http://www.anandtech.com/show/3946/apple-27inch-led-cinema-display-review/1
They didn't mention anything about it, but I read that the audio can either come from the USB connection OR the displayport.. interesting as I didn't notice an option in Win 7 to choose which...
I've got a 27" apple cinema display connected to a PC via displayport/mini displayport adapter. When playing music (through the display) while doing CPU intensive tasks, the audio instantly stutters, cuts out, grumbles, etc. This suggest my PC is simply not powerful enough however that's not the...
When changing the CPU multiplier even by 1, my PC will not get passed the 'memory testing' upon boot. It restarts. I can play with the values all night long and maybe sometimes it will display the first number (4) for the memory testing and then restart.
A typical overclock for the Q6600 is...
i can't turn my comp on with my LCD plugged in alone, the CRT has to be plugged in as well. i think this is because the computer thinks the CRT is the primary monitor. i changed this in the video card properties and it didn't help.
