Chromebook choice?

My old laptop is dying as we speak but I only have about $350~$400 for a new one. I'm thinking about getting a chromebook and installing Linux, because some of the higher-end ones now have 4GB of RAM and decent-ish processors. This will be a non-gaming laptop. I read Anand's Chromebook guide...

Haswell i3-4340 review

Sidegrade to i7-4770 or wait for i7-4820k

Even if you don't overclock, there's no reason to sell your 3930K. It's a good processor. Even with the money you get back from selling it's not worth it to go SB-E -> Haswell/IB-E. The i7-4820K is an overclocking chip as well, so I see no reason to switch. Definitely don't get the 4770(K) if...

AMD FX 6300 @ 4.5ghz benchmarks

I doubt its "stability." Not at 1.456v. Unless you just have an amazing chip, the FX-6300 needs ~1.48v just to get to 4.4 GHz. You can boot with insufficient power, and you might even be able to run Prime95 due to throttling. But try booting up an intensive game on your 4.5 GHz @ 1.456v...

Windows 7. Process lasso helped, thank you. I can't turn up Vcore anymore without housefire. Currently 1.5125v on air. I can't turn down overclock because all of my cool computer friends will laugh at me. This is my life :\

Can I "turn off" a core?

I have a 6-core processor. For some reason, core 1 does not agree with games. To get the best performance I always have to go to Task Manager, Set Affinity, and disable CPU #0. Otherwise I get this really weird stutter. Is there some way I can turn off the core permanently? I don't really mind...
