The new card came in today. Put it in the PCI slot, fired the computer up. Now gigabit works.
So I don't know if its a setting or what it could be for my motherboard NIC.
Ok, I finally got it working now.
I went into the advanced settings of my network adapter and changed the Speed & Duplex to 100Mbps Full Duplex from Auto Negotiation.
I'm not sure what you are asking me to do here or how to do it. I just did a quick google search with not much luck! lol
My laptop is not Gigabit capable by the way.
For further testing, I did share my internet connection through my laptop to my desktop. The laptop is connected wirelessly and then I have cat5e from my laptop to my desktop. Surprisingly, this is working. So I don't know what to think at this point.
So I was looking at the cable running to my modem. The wire that comcast ran isn't labelled and the wire that I used to splice, without me paying attention, is CAT5. The cable from my modem to my computer is CAT5e.
However, my laptop ran fine with all the same wiring. This is why I think the...
So I went to three different stores today to find out no one carries wired networking stuff in store because it cost to much to have the stuff. I was recommended to get a USB Network adapter, which is nice, but I didn't feel like dropping money on it.
Well, I wanted to rule out the modem so I turned off my laptops wireless connection and ran the wire that's going to my desktop to my laptop.
This was the result:
So its not the modem thank god which means it has something to do with my desktop. I'm hoping the motherboards Ethernet...
I did update the drivers. It didn't help much. I also will lock for the USB to USB connection. I can't remember if there was one in the box or not which I have stowed away somewhere.
As for it working wirelessly, what do you think would fix my desktop?
Actually right now on my laptop, its (a little)ALOT better, however, its older and I haven't used it in a long time so its not blazing like I'm use to.
