Does the fan inside the PSU spin up? Sounds like the leads from the front panel buttons might not be installed correctly, have you double checked those?
Seems like you should have a blog somewhere or perhaps post this in the "Highly Technical" section, because in all honesty, you bore the crap out of us mere mortals.
Do you have Infrarecorder installed on both of your computers? If so that is most likely the culprit. Try uninstalling it and see if that helps, there are other free CD burners out there which do not have these issues.
I just did exactly this on my Lenovo G570 laptop, it was as Corkyg said very simple. I picked up the caddy on ebay for under $10. (I have seen them go for as much as 45 to 50 dollars elsewhere.) The hardest part was transferring the bracket that holds the set screw from the optical drive to the...
I strongly suggest you check the dimensions on the PSU you are replacing, dells tend to be very proprietary and matching 3rd party hardware that will fit into their cases is tricky. I've had some very unpleasant experiences servicing some of my clients Dells while replacing hardware. Especially...
I did this when I upgraded my Win 7 laptop from an HDD to an SSD. I just used the free home edition of Easus Todo backup. I cloned the HDD onto the SDD before I physically installed it into the laptop and I was up and running in about 1 hour.
Looks to me like the devices plugged into the PCI ports are missing their drivers, not the ports themselves. Your dell cannot recognize those devices and therefore lists them in device manager as "other devices". You need to go to the manufacturers website and download and install the latest...

The Lexmark 2400 is not even listed in the Windows 7 hardware compatibility list so I doubt there is a driver out there for it. And I agree with you on those driver installers from third party website, I avoid them at all costs as they are just a way of adding adware and malware to your...
