Welcome to the dark ages

Most games still use only dual cores, once software catches up to using quad, everyone who bought quad-cores will magically find their CPUs to be twice as good...no point in upgrading for another 3-4 years if you have a decent quad, huh? Personally, I'm thinking of upgrading to Phenom II X6...

Which Cpu for low res gaming?

For low res gaming (720p and around 30-40 FPS is what I aim for), the Phenom II X4 955 3.2ghz can be had at Newegg for $105 until 10/24 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103808 I'm really tempted to pick it up to replace my Athlon II X2 250, but I really need a new graphics card...

Personally, there isn't much difference to me between playing games at 1080p or 720p; or maybe I just haven't been able to be spoiled by fully maxed-out games at 1080p, but most games (Mass Effect 2, Batman: AA, Dragon Age, and Fallout 3 to name a few) I've played runs and looks fine at 720p...
