Macbook under $500? Reliable place to buy used/refurb?

I think for such an amount you will not be able to find a poppy with such parameters. Try to increase the amount and buy what you need. I don't think it's worth buying something that you won't be able to use for a long time.

Just picked up a MacBook Pro from Goodwill thrift store for $14.91 -- and it works

You are lucky that works. I recommend not storing important information on laptop. You can lose everything at once. And you don't know when it will come.

Try Astrill. I liked him. There is one drawback. He asks to verify the account by entering the code, which should come to the SMS. If it does not bother you, then this is a good service for you.
