A order for a set of golf clubs that I placed two weeks ago suddenly (today) went from "Your order has been received." to "Items have been viewed and printed."

I'm no expert but... you might want to try resetting the BIOS defaults for PNP/PCI. I spent literally weeks (on and off) trying to get a va-503+ and nic to work with no luck until I did this. Just a thought.
A friend of mine (really) would like to build a cheap system to run Linux. Does anybody have any advice for for a cheap (say $150) motherboard+cpu combo? Stability and compatability are the primary concerns, not cutting edge performance.
What pencil lead did you use?
I had problems when overclocking when using whatever pencil lead happened to be in the disposable mechanical pencil I had initially used. I reapplied using HB lead (much softer) and got better results (600->850@1.85v).

If anyone should happen to care, the issue has been resolved. I RMA'ed the mommyboard and received a new 8kta+. Now everything is wonderful.
Now we'll see if I can put my Taisol hs/f on without destroying the Epox.

Most display monitors at stores look like crap- with all the schmucks messing with the controls, poking it with their greasy fingers, and the sales drones not really giving a damn (I doubt they go out of their way to make the cheap monitor look their best).

That is a excellent deal. I bought this monitor as a buy.com deal-of-the-day back in August for $190 shipped. It may not be the greatest monitor around, but it's fine for blasting aliens at the Black Mesa Research Facility. For $164 shipped, it's a no-brainer.
Overheating the CPU is a different warning for Award BIOS: "high frequency beeps when the system is working" means "CPU overheated, Systme running at a lower freq."
The error that I am am getting is the "long beeps in an endless loop".
How often are CPUs or...
Sorry for any confussion over the number of beeps due to the [now editied] title. There are not just three beeps, but instead are an endless cycle of beeps.

Well, I've ordered new RAM which should be here tomorrow. However, I tested the DIMM on another working K6-2 system and it appears fine, so I don't really think that the RAM is the problem. I've checked the voltages from the power supply and they're...
Thanks, I'll have to give the memory a look-see. I'm using the Epox mommyboard, and that manual doesn't give the alarm codes. But the A7V (same Award BIOS) manual specifies the continuous beep as indicative of no DRAM (detected).
I guess it's off to the hot deals board to look for a new DIMM.
