My Dell XPS 13 upgraded painlessly. Usually, my servers have been updated first.
UPDATE: Luckily, I started with my backup computers when I found out about the update erased my documents files.
Ryzen 2700 vendor NewEgg raised their price by $30 before coupon. This was tempting for not needing anything. NewEgg help changed my mind to not buy now.
I also tried every thing to update to 1709. Nothing worked. Today, I use the Media Creation Tool to install 1803. To my surprise, it installed perfectly.
The forum members speak about losing pcie speed (3.0 to 2.0) when using the newer bios and nvme. This is an interesting read.

The cmos battery is not rechargeable. So, using or not using the computer will not recharge it. I thought the same thing for my old non-used computers.
