NewEgg Going Downhills... Not Hot!

Apparently New Egg appears to be definitely going downhills... recently I have been noticing many price increases, less free shipping promotions, and now have to pay tax in NJ. The most clear cut example of this nonsense is thier pricing with flat panels... while thier prices were good at one...

virus problem -> display problems

There are several viruses that cannot be gotten rid off since they are part of a windows service or some other program that is currently running. If you did not try it yet, boot up your computer in Safe Mode (press F8 as windows is starting and select the option) and then scan for viruses...

Memory stick has 13,550,000 errors?

Memtest86 keeps on looping in regards to memory diagnostics. You should try to see how many passes it has gone through during that 2.5 hours. The maximum number of errors that could be reported is the total number of bytes that the memory chip has. I would RMA that defective stick of memory...

Memtest86 errors

Yeah, I would definitely test both stick at a time at stock speeds to determine the problem. What you describe is defnitely characteristic of bad memory. Also, I would recommend using some canned air and being liberal with the application to the memory sockets. Good luck!

Friendly Linux/Unix flavor

Change the drive letter of the drive XP is installed on?

Yes, definitely do not change the drive letter of the boot drive... bad! While there is a way to do it with registry hacks.. it is not pretty and definitely not recommended.

Cheap Router?

CackRabbit, You must have gotten a bad apple then, the one I have is one of the older models with half the ports in the front and the other half in the back... while it is annoying I cannot complain since I have never had any problems. Xenon14, I would just go for the Linksys... after all...

Cheap Router?

SMC Barricade.... you can usually find this cheap and its better than DLink.... The Barricade also comes with a built in print server and many user editable settings for firewalling, etc. Have used an SMC Barricade for 3 years with no problems.

?'s about memory

Generally registered memory is motherboard specific. Usually only server motherboards require registered memory. Registered memory is required for systems with large amount of system memory... this is usually in excess of 1gb or more. If your motherboard doesnt require it... I would not waste...
