    ati 9600xt any good?

I still have my 9600xt and I'm running D3, even play with buddies via lan and it works. I can't remember my settings but it's at least 800x600 and I'm sure I could get 1024x768 with some tweaks. One thing to be careful of is your cpu. I upgraded from an XP2000 to an AMD64 3200. It was almost...

Be so kind as to recommend some cases?

I have not seen this CM Stacker case before but jeeeshhhh, 3 120mm intake fans??!!! That's just silly if you ask me. How about some general guidelines for a good case? Largest you can get and use with your room / desk (easier to work on and cool) Steel and not aluminum if you want silence...

    A64 3500 PSU requirements

I have an A64 3200 with an 9600xt and 3 hard drives (and 1 dvd drive) and I'm running an Antec True 330 with no issues. I don't think the power requirement for the A64 went up very much over the previous AMD chips.

    Question about PSU.

I thought someone answered this already. Power and heat aren't related in the way you mean. I don't think a psu is designed to power down when heat gets too high - they are more likely to shut off completely. I'm no expert but I always thought that peak referred to what level the psu could...

Flat panel native resolution and games (1905fp vs 2001fp)

I was borrowing the gf's 17" NEC FP for gaming and it worked out well for one reason. The original box it came in was not much bigger than the flat panel and it had a handle. It was about the size of a small suitcase or large briefcase. I stored the box (styrofoam and all) in my closet and when...

what is the quietest cooling setup you've had?

This is an excellent idea. With some long extension KVM cords you can use furniture to isolate the pc noise.

Looking for silent top quality 80mm fan

    I second the Panaflo.

What size fan would that be?

Looks like front and back 80mm fan brackets.

what is the quietest cooling setup you've had?

If you want real overload of information you should try this site for ideas. Seems like half of my posts recommend this site. The basic keys are: * get rid of all small fans including video card fans and mb fans * get largest fans possible (120mm being best) * keep fans moving...

    which case should I get?

The Evercase is very popular with the silent pc community. It has good airflow (the front bezel is actually vented on the sides I think) and has room for 120mm exhaust and probably 120mm intake with mods. You can use the side panel vents to make ducts, throw in a few fan controllers and make a...

    Foam Board Mod

Hard to tell what you're doing since the picture is kind of blurry and there's only the one shot. I think you're trying to create a duct but here is an idea that worked well for one guy. The advantage is that you don't fight gravity and instead use it to your advantage and pull the heat up and out.

Flat panel native resolution and games (1905fp vs 2001fp)

I have the 2001fp and I'm amazed how huge it is. One of the reasons for going with a FP was portability but this thing is so big I'm still worried about transporting it. The picture quality is nice but I can easily see why anyone who works with photos has to have a CRT. Some pictures that I...

Looking for a cheap, yet worthwhile case

Your best bet maybe to run some queries at NewEgg to get ideas. They have some pretty good filters at that site that make searches easy. You don't have to buy from them but it should give you an idea of what may work. You can then post back and ask for opinions on the cases you choose - which is...

    Rate my Idea

I have seen good results with only negative pressure. One recent example had just a single 120mm fan pulling air up and out of the case. Not sure if anyone will object to the post to another site but here goes: Single fan duct mod

    New Athlon 64 3000 boots at 50c

My A64 3200 runs at 48c fully loaded. I used stock cooling except for I used some AS2 instead of the thermal pad that comes with it. Seasons are changing though and my room temp is down near 73f so that may be a factor.
