I need a Norton Ghost - like utility, help!

PowerQuest DriveImage 5 can backup an NTFS parititon to another NTFS drive/parition just fine, it can compress images with two levels of compression, and it can also encrypt them. i think that covers all the features you asked for. not sure about it working over FireWire though.

Why did they ban GoldenBear and GoldenGuppy?

well i never really liked some of GB posts, but i dont think he should be banned either, and you have to admit he is funny sometimes :)

just a few thoughts...

i always considered this place to have some of the smartest and most well behaved people in any forums i visit from time to time. but i cant help but notice that the amount of hateful, violent, ignorant, arrogant, racist and cheap comments on AT forums lately is just way too high compared to AT...

Best Freeware/Shareware sfv checker?

personally i love Amok SFV/CON its tiny, super fast, specially when reading big files, and runs right from the console. no GUI. http://www.amok.gulli.com/v3.htm :)

XP UPDATES FINALLY AT WINDOWSUPDATE.COM

i saw the news earlier on neowin.net quite a load of updates like you said, it found new drivers for my modem, sound card, P3, and even Geforce2Go the compatibilities update lists some very popular and important apps as well, so i would recommend getting it, among them is nero 5.5, anti virus...

PowerQuest was offering Lost & FOund as a free download a while back, you might wanna go to there website and check if its still availiable for download. :)

dying laptop. anyway to fix it?

it sure seems to me like a wiring/short or hopefully not, a bad motherboard. :( as for the life span, i never owned a compaq laptop, but my old Dell Inspiron 3200 was left on for weeks not days sometimes and its almost 3 and ahalf years old and still works just fine.
