Dead Laptop?

I have an HP zd7168cl laptop, about 5 years old. Yesterday, while innocuously browsing the internet, it made a zap noise and shut off. It gave no response immediately after, and had an odd, burnt smell to it. I left it unplugged and untouched overnight. Today I plugged it in and the ac power...

SATA Boot Problems

If I plug in any SATA Drive into my computer, it locks up during the POST sequence with the line "Verifying DMI Data Pool..." My motherboard is a Gigabyte K8NSP with the F4a BIOS, with an Athlon64 3400+ and WinXP Pro. Any suggestions to get it to boot with an SATA device? thanks

Programs keep crashing: IE, MSN, AIM, Explorer

Perhaps some system files on the HDD have been corrupted? If all your hardware checks out and you have reinstalled your software that is the only thing I can think of. A reformat would probably be necessary...

Random freezing problem :|

Any replacement parts you could use to narrow down the culprit? Another video card, compatible RAM, or mobo? Possible even a PsU even though yours seems more than enough.

PC Speakers to TV

I have a set of 5.1 computer speakers that I would like to hook up to my TV. It only has var. output and regular speaker hookups. Is there an adapter or something that would allow me to do this? EDIT: found out it is possible with an adapter.
