As some one who bought the 3950X only to upgrade to 5950X a year later, I'm not going for any early-cycle flagships anymore. Gonna wait until the final form of AM5 (9950X3D ??) before jumping in

After months, I just tried Folding@Home, and it's desolate.

Yeah this is important to keep in mind. These usually aren't commercial servers & services, sometimes they're just a tower in the corner of a professor's office. There have been months long outages in the past for various projects due to things as simple as a single HDD failure.

After months, I just tried Folding@Home, and it's desolate.

I had a similar experience. I built a dual GPU system earlier this year with the intention of using it for BOINC, but by about August the GPU jobs started drying up and only came back infrequently. Not sure what the exact situation is with F@H but it's not reliable enough to keep my workstation...

Question $80 new budget CPU king?

at the <$80 price point, if "bang for your buck" is the goal I dont think its worth buying new, scrounge up something on eBay, I recently got a Ryzen Pro 4350G for $80 and it seems like a pretty good contender

Question Anyone burn out Ryzen CPU's PCI-E lanes?

you need to reduce the process priority (`nice` level in Linux) on the mining so that your other processes e.g. browsing dont get throttled by the mining. This will eliminate "bog down" on pretty much all CPU's regardless of their age or performance.

if you are going to dip that low its not even worth getting them new at retail, you might as well start digging around eBay. Recently got a 3200G for $40 and a 4350G Pro for $80

Yes my experience was there iOS Safari does have some blockers (iirc this is a semi recent development since iirc Apple previously didn't even have plugins and/or allowed blocking for security reasons) but then you are stuck using only Safari. Personally, I'm pretty embedded with the Firefox...
