1+2. guess you have win2k sp2. if you do, then just stick to it. the only update for sp2 is sp3, but it is very unstable, better install XP, so you know something for sure. 3. to install drivers you need admin privileges, or you might end up with an incomplete install. also, some software...

also you could use the extract tool (Edit-Extract or Alt+Ctrl+X) if your content doesn't have whites on its margins. it's a very useful and powerful tool. Edit: that if only want to keep your outlined content, this tool only extracts what you want and elliminates everything else

oh, yes, forgot about that. actually, that on-board anti-virus (if you can call it this way) can output only in text mode. installer is already in graphic mode when starts writing to disk (after it does all the checks) and it simply freezes.

yes, I did it. first backed up all my data then installed from scratch. I know, it's a lot of hassle, but when you upgrade, you'll keep a lot of bad settings and data which in the end give you way more headache

How long does it take to defrag a 60 Gig HD?

there's no way to tell how long will a defrag take, it depends on filesizes, no of files, fragmentation degrees, defrag algorythms, etc. don't know about xp, but 2k has an option to analize disk fragmentation that'll give you a hint.

your win kit has some bad files, which is more likely since install freezes in the same portion. try another install kit. if that doesn't work, hook your hdd to another comp and run a surface check

doesn't matter the os, it's the browser that does that. I assume you're using ie6, so you have 2 options: either go to File>Save as and it will save the current page with all that's on it or add the page to Favorites and enable the Make available offline option. don't know if this is how it...
