I would venture to say that anyone who spends $500 on a VC would have an 8x capable MB. I could be wrong though.

No. The 9800 Pro performs much better in games than the 9600 Pro. If gaming performance is your primary concern, that would be a bad move.

best video card for around 200 - 250 dollars ?

New nvidia and ATi products will be available in about a month. It's really in your best interest to wait and see. If you can't, the 9800 pro gets my vote.

Downgrading from ATI Radeon 9800 Pro?

You might consider a 9600Pro AIW for video editing but to be honest, I would stick with what you have unless the rest of your ig is extremely out of date. You got a good price on it too.

Vian - Uninstall your ati drivers. Reboot into safemode and run drivercleaner (google for it) to get rid of any trace nvidia stuff. Go ahead and do the same for ATi. Reboot and install the Cats. You should be good to go. P.S. Don't forget about my heat :)
