Overclocking an E8400 on stock cooler

Should be OK with the stock cooler - I am using the stock intel cooler (ex E6750) and I am running my E8400 at 9x400 - 3.6ghz. I did need to manually set the vcore to 1.25 for stability. Temps are 40 deg idle and 58 deg under load (OCCT etc) The temps normally dont go above 45 deg for...

exactly.. you want a colder case you need a dual slot cooler that blows the hot air out, rather then into the case. Not necessarily a lower temp for your card Yeah - good point, so are there any aftermarket coolers I can fit to my 8800GT that will allow the hot air to blow outside the PC...

Thanks for the input - yes I thought the board would use the default voltage, but had no way of checking. EasyTune 5 does give the VDimm voltage in "Advanced Mode" - not sure how accurate it is but at least its a guide. At least the board boots OK with voltage default settings. At +0.3v...

As referred to earlier, these cards are expected to run hot, but thats no reason to allow them to. If the video card approaches 100 deg C + this heat is going to be transfered into the PC case, causing other components (CPU, RAM HDD) to run at higher temps. Putting extra fans on the case...

I looks as tho the Gigabyte EasyTune app displays DDR voltages (VDIMM) - I will check it out when I get home later.

Gigabyte P35 DS3P DDR voltages

I have set up a new system using a GA P35 DS3P with Corsair PC 6400 C4 ram which is supposed to run at 2.1 volts. Since the "standard" DDR2 volts is 1.8 - 1.9, does the motherboard automatically set the DDR volts to 2.1 with this RAM - or do I have to raise the volts in the bios (+0.2...

Hi Dulanic, Is the cold boot issue you are having the same one I referred to in an earlier post - computer starts then stops and then boots when overclocking. If so I would be interested in finding out if changing your RAM helps, especially as I was considering replacing my Corsair for OCZ...

Thanks for the info Kougar - I did have some suspicions about the RAM - turns out that the Corsair Ram I have actually uses ProMos 667 Mhz chips that overclock to 800 Mhz, so they sell them as PC6400 chips. Mine work OK at 900 Mhz 5 5 5 18 at 2.1V. I hear that DDR2 RAM prices are going up...
