Discussion Zen 5 Speculation (EPYC Turin and Strix Point/Granite Ridge - Ryzen 9000)

I may have missed it, but is there any indication that Zen 5 is more RAM Speed or Latency sensitive than Zen 4 ?

The issue is the current track record RDNA3 Launch = Borked RDNA4 Launch = Gimped RDNA5 Launch = ?????? Overall it's not looking promising for AMD on the chiplet GPU front. RDNA2 was good but this is a whole different ball-game with no evidence of a working concept yet (MI300X doesn't run...

Not necessarily, AMD may still not have figured out how to nail a multi-die gaming GPU, hence no RDNA5 Halo

My understanding is that the leap-frogging design teams mean that the RDNA 3 speed-power issues haven't touched RDNA 4 and it was rather the multi-chip tiling coherency being unworkable that prevented the top RDNA 4 chips from being taped out

Discussion Zen 5 Speculation (EPYC Turin and Strix Point/Granite Ridge - Ryzen 9000)

I'm curious if there's a good benchmark for seeing how well a microarch does with VM CPU over-provisioning. It would be very interesting to see the Zen 1->2->3->4->4c->5 evolution in those terms, including a comparison with intel e-cores and whether a single fat Zen5 core can basically be the...

Discussion Zen 5 Speculation (EPYC Turin and Strix Point/Granite Ridge - Ryzen 9000)

I wonder if the recent introduction of EPYC 4004 on AM5 opens the door for high core count Zen5c and Zen6c processors to be introduced onto the platform (past 16 cores)

Outside of the handheld PC gaming wave pioneered by Steam. I feel OEM's have been reticent when it comes to AMD and "new form factors" . Intel seems to be the ones pushing dual screen laptops and NUCS etc rather than the OEM's themselves

The big question is, does Strix Halo give AMD as much margin as a intel/nVidia 4070 combo at a competitive price ? It's be a bit disheartening if it doesn't

Damn, I thought they were going to split the bigger die into RX 8700/8800 variants and the smaller die as RX 8500/8600. Still curious how a lack of halo affects launch pricing. I'd expect they'd be priced to move, since they have no headliner to pull the price up.

Pricewise is RDNA4 expected to be less than or equal to the current gen ? eg Price RX8800 <= RX7800 RX8700 <= RX8700 RX8600 <= RX8600 etc Given the smaller die's and lack of Halo

Is the NPU not a part of the GPU or is it a discrete/separate part of the die ? Also has there been any news on the Linux Kernel utilizing the upcoming NPU's ? (I guess more of a question for the phoronix forums)
