Upgrading from 939 to AM2 for $170...worth it?

X2 3600+ or E4300

Is AMD X2 5600+ just a bad overclocker?

3.0G to 3.2G is about tops for an X2 on air cooling. Good news is that you can buy a $70 X2 3600+ brisbane core and have just as good a chance getting it to 3.0-3.2Ghz as the more expensive AMD X2 cpu's. Moral of the story is if you are going to OC, buy the lowest speed core (least...

Looking to upgrade to C2D setup.

I am an AMD fan, so i am not an expert on C2D setup's, but I think Intel is releasing their new bearlake mobo's, P35/X38 pretty soon. I would suggest you wait a few weeks and get one of these because they are supposed to also support the next gen C2D's (Penryn). It is not known...

Bottlenecking

You should be fine with the X2 @ 2.4G with the 8800GTS. Hold off on the CPU upgrade itch for another 6 months and then you can drop an Agena (quad core) or a Kuma (dual core) in that AM2 socket and kick the pants off the C2D's and Penryn cores. The Agena and Kuma are the Next Gen desktop...

I think Nvidia recommends a minimum 400W Power Supply that provides at minimum 26Amps on the +12V for their 8800GTS series. You should be OK with the XCILO 500W.

How much to sell x2 4200 for (used)?

Considering you can buy brand new retail box ones with HSF for $189 I think you did well getting $145 for a used one. I think you got lucky and I would not excpect used ones to sell for that much!!!!
