Now I fried W2K with SP2...joy

I had this happen to me and a friend, if you pop in the win2k CD and boot to that, just run a quick restore, and you can go back to your last setting before the SP2 install. It worked great for us.

Upgrading to XF86 4.1, how do I get back into KDE?

how the fsck do you get out of emacs in linux?!!??!?

Also if you want to switch between files use Ctl-c Ctl-f, and then just type in the file name, I personally recomend using xemacs, its emacs with colors! (and also nicer to use IMO).

What OS should I use?

I would absolutly recomend win2k. It is by far more stable, and just generally nicer to deal with. If I were you the only reason I would be leary of installing 2k would be video drivers, however since you have an nvidia based card that shouldn't be a problem, since right now they are the only...

Getting DRI to load with XFree 4.03

Well here is my problem (there is another thread discribing the situation at http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=31&threadid=465541), I am running a voodoo3 3000 pci on linux mandrake 8.0 and I cannot seem to get dri to load for me. If I run glxinfo everything comes up fine...

Voodoo3 + linux + UT, should it be this hard?

Ok I finally figured out that DRI is just plain not loading. Does anyone out there know why dri would not load on startup or how to check to see what is happening to cause it not load. Grrr, well at least I know the problem, now to find the fix.

Thanks for the responses. Unfortunetly I have been unable to find new drivers except from DRI's website and these you have to compile yourself. Unfortunetly the instructions that come with them are still for xFree 3.x so that isn't too much help. I would love to download the newest drivers for...

Voodoo3 + linux + UT, should it be this hard?

Ok heres the deal, I have an old voodoo3 3000 (like just about half of us out there), and I do a fair amount of software devolpment for school on sun servers, so I am in linux all of the time so I can run the apps remotly with my X server. I just want to be ablw to jump into UT for ten minutes...

Raid Controler: can you hook up 2 regular IDE devices

Yeah, he doesn't want to setup raid though, just hook-up five or six ide devices, I think hes got a CD-RW, DVD, 2 harddrives and a zip drive that he wants to hook-up, so that should work fine for him, and raid is always there if he decides he wants to use it. Thanks again. -Reid

Thanks for all of the input. Actually he is going to get the epox 8k7a+, which means that it would be a crippled on-board version, but that is still a pretty good replacement for an other controller card that he would have to buy, thanks. -Reid

Raid Controler: can you hook up 2 regular IDE devices

I have a friend who is looking at getting a new machine and wants to hook up 5 IDE devices, I have read that you can hook up two single IDE devices up to an IDE-RAID controller and they will work just like a regular IDE controller, is this right? Or am I way off? Thanks in advance. -Reid

Getting Glide (or OpenGL) to work, voodoo3, XF864.03

errr bump... if anyone knows where to get current voodoo3 linux drivers, I will try installing them, but 3dfx only has windows drivers now, and they have taken down 3dfxgamers.com, and I can't exactly turn to www.windrivers.com for this one..... I am sure its included with XF864.03, but I cannot...

Installing Win2k and ata100

from everything that I have seen, win2k doesn't fully support ata100, I have an athlon board with the 686B south brige, but my machine is using ata66 and it works fine, basicly unless you have some unreleased 15,000 rpm IDE drive you arent going to notice any difference between the two settings...

Getting Glide (or OpenGL) to work, voodoo3, XF864.03

Ok so I have finally got everything all setup now with my main machine and linux after an unfortunet hard drive death. So I went and found my way to lokigames.com and downloaded the shell script and installed UT. Went to fire it up and I get errors saying that UT cannot find the drivers, well...
