I am experiencing a similar problem. I'm running a 40GB Maxtor and a 17GB Western Digital in a master/slave setup on the primary IDE channel. My board is an ASUS A7M266 (AMD760). The 2nd hard drive is not being assigned a drive letter in either Windows or DOS, but is recognized at start up...
I have the Performance 4X card, and it is incompatible with the third party controller I have(Mad Katz I think). Works fine with the Sega controller though. Switching pages is easy and I haven't lost any saves yet.
One thing that wasn't mentioned about this player is that it has upgradable firmware. All you need to do is burn the firmware update onto a cdr and stick it into the player. A firmware update has already been released that adds a resume function to the player. When you turn the unit on it...

They must've received a big shipment today, because mine shipped too.
kwad: that firmware update (actually 3.27) is for the CRD-BP900P drive, AKA the 12/4/32. The 12/10/32 drive is the BP1300P and there doesn't seem to be any firmware updates available for it. Not on the Sanyo website at...
