Another vote for the Accelero + a 120 mm fan. Had it on my 4850 and now on my 4890. Dead silent and works great. Only problem is I had to take out the side fan on my Antec 900 case because of how much the Accelero sticks out. But it's worth it because it's oh so quiet now. No more jet engine!
Thanks for the info and replies. When I asked the question I had no idea it would spark conversation about heat management. This is an interesting subject for sure. Computer heat management is something I like to work on. I bought an Antec Nine Hundred case earlier this year because my...
Is there a good way to keep a fan or two running even after shutting down a computer? I've been thinking about some sort of alternative powered fan - maybe battery powered. Any ideas? I'm primarily interested in keeping some air on my video card after shutdown to cool it down. Thanks.
I've been using a 9500 for about 6 months now and have not had any problems whatsoever. No BSODs - nothing. I use it for light gaming and daily use. I have been happy with it. $75 is a bargain. If you don't want it, please let me know!
Question: I have a Dell Reinstallation CD with Windows XP Pro on it. It was installed on a computer and activated but the computer has since been dismantled. It's not in use on any machine so should it be shredded? I hate to throw it away but I guess there's no use for it. Thanks.
Thanks for all the input and advice. On my budget I'll probably see if I can grab a couple 3870s on the cheap when the 4870s come out (maybe buy a 4870 at some point). Thankfully my PSU is crossfire ready.
I'm in the process of upgrading from an A64 4400+ cpu system to a 6400+ system. The system I have now is an ASUS nVidia SLI based mobo but the new board is ASUS ATI Crossfire based. Years ago I used ATI video cards (7200, then 8500 - whooo!) and later made the switch to nVidia with a Ti4600...
Lots of great replies with useful information. Thanks everybody - I really appreciate the help. By the way, I agree with the comment about the cooling. I like the cooling setup on the 8800GTS. It dumps heat out the back of the computer. Man, that gpu sure does put out some heat...
I'm probably limited by cpu. I have a X2 4400+ OC'd a little bit to 4800+ speeds and 2GB of PC3200.
I also just realized another problem - my motherboard doesn't support PCIE 2.0 (or atleast I don't think it does) so I guess this whole question is may be mute. From what I've seen...
I bought the 8800GTS used here on the forums. Got it for a good price which is a must on my budget. I got it for ~ $40 cheaper than a new 9600GT. I didn't realize the 9600GTs were that good until I read more about them. I've had mixed luck with nVidia's mid-range "600" cards in the past...
I just bought an 8800GTS 320 and it's good but it's only a little bit faster than the two 7900GSs I had in SLI.
Just wondering if the 9600GT would be a whole lot better than the 8800GTS and, if so, how much? Most of the comparison stuff I've seen compares the 640 version of the GTS to the...
Just wanted to add onto my earlier post and what WT wrote.
The processor I'm using is a X2 4400 running at default speed. With a single 7900GS my 3DMark '05 score was 8102 - running two 7900GS' in SLi the score moved up to 11472. My 3DMark '06 score went from 4511 to 7240, which is a...
So did you SLi your 7900GS?
I just installed a second 7900GS yesterday for the same reason you listed - waiting on 8800.. prices to fall. Besides, I wanted to try Sli at some point anyway just to have the experience. I am running WinXP and using the 169.21 driver. I had one 7900GS...
Not sure what format Youtube uses but if it will take .wmv files then the best thing is to download Windows Media Encoder. It's available for free on Microsoft's web page. It will take MM files and convert them to .wmv. Hope that helps.
