Need advice on a budget laptop

I was on the Lenovo site looking at thinkpads and it said the Z series line started at $799 which I thought was an awesome price for a widescreen laptop (14inch). I would suggest this, if it actually was possible to price a laptop at 799, I clicked the link and even with celeron proc it was like...

inphonic cellular family plans? Anyone have any experiences?

Well as for the minutes I never go above 300 mins or so (peak) so even if I could get double the minutes for $20 more it'd be money wasted. I havent seen any family plans that were cheaper than this. I was going to split this with my sister who also doesn't use too many minutes. I was wondering...

Best protection for connecting to a a wireless network that's not secure?

most routers have wireless access lists, where you can add the MAC address of a card, and permit only those MACs to access the network. This shouldnt be a problem unless you arent around and she wants to connect extra (unknown ) machines.

need to change a Router into an hub/switch.

All you need to do is plug the cable modem into a LAN port rather than the WAN port of your Belikin router and it will become a switch, anything plugged into the remaining 3 LAN ports will get IPs from your modem/router combo device.

Why doesn't my laptop detect the network?

I am not sure if you are having the same problem I am, but I am using the Linksys wrt54g router, and I can't connect to my router either unless SSID broadcast is enabled. I am using the built-in windows wireless support, and I am patched up to SP2. I don't know why, but once I turn SSID back on...

Need a wired/wireless router that will limit bandwidth to users

well from the site when they list features they seem to list 'bandwidth allocation' separately as opposed to 'QoS' so I assume they mean other than prioritizing bandwidth it will also allow you to do what TheLizardMan wants, which is to limit bandwidth based on MAC/IP/Port. Or a combination...

hmm now that i look at the forums it appears that sveasoft firmware will let you allocate bandwidth as well as do QoS. I'm not a big fan of flashing fancy customer firmware to my stuff when I don't need it, but it's definitely something you could look into.

well, i don't think there is a cheap solution to what you want, but what you can do is get a linksys router that is in the WRT54g family and obtain the sveasoft custom firmware for it. I don't think it will let you split the bandwidth but it will let you prioritize your traffic over his :) so as...
