I had that same problem with my motherboard's USB ports with Windows XP service pack 1 but when I installed service pack 2, the problem disappeared.
I first tried to reinstall the motherboard's USB drivers (DFI) but got a message that they are included with service pack 1. So my problem may...
I am resurrecting this thread to say that I fixed my error message problem. I replaced my Lite-On CD/DVD burner for a new Sony burner and everything burns correctly without any error messages.
Now I'm wondering if my laser lens was dirty on the original burner, even though I used a wet CD...
Hello forum,
I have a Lite-On DVD burner (SOHW 812S) and I have never had any trouble burning authored DVD's on it until last month. I now always get a "command sequence error" either during the burn or as the burn is writing the lead out. Sometimes it will eject the DVD during the burn...
Hello forum
I just installed a 250 gig hard drive and upgraded the motherboard BIOS to accommodate it. When I format the new drive with one logical partition for the entire drive with NTFS, Windows XP sp2 reads it correctly as being a 250 gig HD. But if I create two primary partitions, one...
Hello,
Normally I would not be replying back to this thread but my boss wants me to thank Sctakeshi and the others for his advice because now my boss has cleared two thirds of his hard drive by deleting both MP3's and the accumulated restore points. He is very grateful for that so I am relaying...
Hello forum,
My boss at work says his hard drive in his home PC filled up to capacity for no apparient reason. His hard drive had been about one third full for months and then the other day he noticed it was completely full when he didn't knowingly cause it to happen. He even had to uninstall...
Thanks to both of you for your input. I finally did get it to boot "normally", in the GUI inviroment. But not by typing startx at that command prompt. Whenever I typed startx at the command prompt, I got an error message saying "fatal server error - no screens found" so I assumed my graphics...
Hello forum,
I am very new at Linux. I installed Linux Mandrake 9.2 for the first time the other day and it work very well in every way. But as I was exploring all that it had to offer, I somehow made it start asking for my user name and password during the boot process, and after I put in my...
I had a very similar problem only to find out that Drive Image by Power Quest marked my XP partition as hidden after I did a restore. In my case, I simply "unhid" my XP partition and it worked fine.
Hello forum,
I hope I'm not acting prematurely but I ordered Mandrake 9.2 (3 CD set) on December 10 from http://www.linuxisoimages.com/ and not only have I not received it yet but 1) all of their links are broken and 2) I get no response when I email or call them on the telephone them to...
I too plan to try Linux (Mandrake) once it arrives through the mail. Even though I am a newbe at Linux, I wouldn't dare try installing it if I did not have a full system backup, such as from Drive Image, in case I fatally render my computer inoperative. Even though I don't work for Drive Image...
Actually, my main OS is Windows XP sp1 and I am trying to hold on to Windows 98SE (dual boot, separate partitions) to run some old programs that won't run on XP. But I am beginning to think I would be better off just to purchase the upgraded versions of those same programs for Windows XP because...
