XP My Computer + Recycle Bin icon/text resetting to default - why?

for some reason the my computer and recycle bin icons in win XP won't retain the custom icon and text name that i give them anymore -- they reset back to defaults after every reboot or logout. is it perhaps a profiles thing? both times this has happened, it happened after i installed a 5x.xx...

2100+/KX7 doesn't want to cold boot - ideas?

hey, i remember you from the trivia contest. congrats. :) i do have a lot of other hardware in here. a 10k rpm scsi drive, 7200 rpm ide drive, three cd-roms, and a geforce 4... i know those all draw a lot on the psu. but if it was a power problem, why would it boot and run normally one out of...

2100+/KX7 doesn't want to cold boot - ideas?

antec 300w psu that one ran my tbird fine... would it make that big a difference with an XP? also, once it boots, everything runs fine.

you know what, i bet that's what the problem is - there are nine or ten spacers in there and i only screwed down to six of them. i should just take out the ones that aren't being used. i guess i'll report back when i see if that works. :)

well, my case has metal standoffs that keep the board from touching the frame (or they're supposed to anyway). i always just screwed the board into those and it didn't seem to have a problem... i'm not sure what i'm doing differently with this board.

ok, i thought my new KX7 and corsair XMS 2700 were bad because they wouldn't post even with just the CPU/memory/video card installed, but on a whim i tried taking the board out of the case and just running the power supply cable over to it... the board is balanced on a cardboard box right now...

KX7/tbird 1.4 won't boot - help?

my 1.4 is definitely locked. it's like some common myth that all of them are unlocked. i've reseated the video card, cpu, and memory multiple times, put the memory in different slots, changed to an older (safer) video card, etc - still the exact same thing. i'm starting to get annoyed.

yeah, i thought that might be it, so i put in an old duron 600 that's locked, and i got the same problem. i'm currently trying to boot only with the video card installed - all drives and other devices are disconnected.

tbird 1.4 with the L1 bridges connected by me KX7-333 (non-raid) 512 mb 2700 (corsair XMS) visiontek ti4200 128 mb when i power on, i get no video signal at all and one long beep every three seconds or so. i only have a 300w power supply (antec) but it's a good one. previously i was running...

GF4 TI4200 Gainward In Stock @ Newegg!!!!!

argh, newegg has this card back in stock now - at $214 plus minimum $8 shipping. somehow i just can't quite stomach that price. also doesn't help that i'm leaving for LA on monday so i probably wouldn't even be around to get it... i should just make myself wait. i guess by the end of the month...
