Thanks for the heads up. Apparently from what I'm reading, this mobo has some issues running certain revs of RAM in dual channel mode, with certain BIOS revisions. Ram issues like that aren't that uncommon in my experience... you often see issues with either clocking or stability for every...

DirectX 10...and so it ends!

Considering the main gaming app I run is World of Warcraft, and its pretty much the only game I've touched in a year, except for maintance days, and I'm entirely happy looking forward to the new content coming for the next year(s,) I am not really excited by this new OS downgrade option...

Nearest non-Opteron chip that Newegg is selling.. and they really are my preferred vendor, is AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Venice 1GHz FSB 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor - Retail... for $282. Is this a better deal? EDIT: I also see ZipZoomFly is selling the Opteron 148 Retail, for $238. Still...

Give me a reality check on my upgrade

At the moment I have the following system: Abit IS-7 P4C 2.6G 2x512MB 3200 (corsair) ATI 9500Pro PC Power&Cooling TurboCool 350ATX Audigy1 soundcard My issue is performance is in high end raiding in WoW. Lots of BWL encounters require lots of AOE, and my rig is getting very poor FPS...

Which SATA ports to use for NVidia RAID on Nforce3?

Not sure if this is OT... but... I'll repost here... I'm preinstalling this thing for my wife, so I don't have to set it all up on Christmas morning. Everything is going perfectly smoothly, as we speak... except the RAID configuration in the manual isn't 100% clear which SATA set to use...

SLI worth it?

The "point" is mostly about being able to extend the life of a machine by adding in another graphics card at, hopefully, a dirt cheap price (at that point in the future.) Your ability to upgrade a processor would be contingent on AMD's sticking with 939... which is likely for a while at...

Choosing between 6800GT 128mb(Asus), 6800GT 256mb and 6800Ultra

Choosing between 6800GT 128mb(Asus), 6800GT 256mb and 6800Ultra

Not the BFG 6800GT.. which isn't available many places at all.. It's among the top performers, is well regarded and has a lifetime warranty.. which is why I was thinking of that brand. Another option is the XFX 6800GT... Thoughts?

RAID 0?

RAID-0 doesn't have significant benefit in general PC usage, and has the added "benefit" of increasing the risk of volume failure. The Raptor on its own will be plenty fast. If you do want to go that route... consider doing overwriting daily Ghost backups to a secondary drive.

Which is better, playing games from cd or hard drive?

Using Alcohol 120 may only give you a slight performance boost (CD checks at game startup,) but not much content is actually read from the CD any more, for any game I've played. If you find one that is... (Diablo2 maybe?) then yes... there'd be a more significant boost.

Upgrading my wifes PC for Christmas (slight change of plan)

Using the stick of Corsair (not Crucial) XMS 3200 for now. Will pass that down and get some more at a later date... but that so easy to upgrade.
