Why is my computer beeping at me?

Every time my computer connects to the internet, it makes a "beep" noise. Does anyone know why this is or if it means something is wrong? It doesn't seem to have any negative effect on my computer, but the sound worries me. It's very similar to the beeping that BIOS does when it is trying to...

laptop for an artist / gamer

That laptop looks great. I found it on newegg and the specs are amazing. The only problem is 2 hours of battery life is kind of crummy for when I'm on th go. Is there a battery upgrade available?

How much did yours end up costing? And are the graphics really that good? because I heard bad things about the geforce 8400GS. And how do you buy through your university page? I will be starting at UCLA this fall and I still haven't figured out how to do that.
