Thanks. I've actually decided to repurpose a 2TB 970 Evo Plus drive from my desktop that only had 200gb of data on it. Will do a swap tomorrow, and that'll save me $400 :)
It's not as fast as the PCIe4 drives, but in real world usage the difference is probably barely noticeable. And "free" is...
Alright, I just got a new ThinkPad X1 Yoga laptop, with 11th Gen Core i7, so it supports PCIe4. It came with a 1TB Toshiba PCIe Gen3 drive, and I either way want to put in a 2TB drive (it only has 1 M.2 slot).
I'm looking for the overall best mix of performance and power efficiency, and am...
Well, in this new case for some reason the H110i is not giving me significantly better temperatures than the Noctua NH-D15. And to give me those temperatures, it generates a lot more noise than the Noctua. So what I'm gonna do is just return the H110i. In this Corsair 750D case I overall get...
So I decided to exchange my Fractal Design R5 case for a Corsair Obsidian 750D, which has better airflow than the R5. It's also bigger and roomier so easier to work in.
Along with that I got a Corsair Hydro 110i GT. Installed it in the top as exhaust. Two 140mm intake fans at the front of...
All this research about water-coolers is almost giving me a mind to send the D15 back to Amazon and go full AIO for both GPU and CPU. But I'll think it over a bit more. Have until the 20th to return the D15, beyond that I'm stuck with it. Noise/performance ratio wise though, the D15 is hard...
I think for now I'm gonna try just doing the GPU, and will leave the CPU air-cooled. From researching a bit more last night it seems that I will not gain much in terms of temps in the CPU department when going from my Noctua NH-D15 to a AIO setup. The GPU however is another story, and there are...
Yeah, well too bad EVGA.com charges a 15% restocking fee. Didn't think I'd feel the need to exchange it once I had it so that's why I went with EVGA.com. Now I kinda regret that. Asked if I could return it and upgrade to 980Ti Hybrid, but they said I still need to pay 15% restocking fee...
If I go the AIO route for the GPU (which I probably will), I might go for the NZXT G10 + NZXT Kraken X31 combo. Or the soon to be released Corsair HG10 N980 + a Corsair Hydro cooler. Those also have solutions for the VRAM with heatsinks/coolers for that area and then an open spot where you...
So at stock speeds running an EVGA 980Ti SC+ ACX2.0+ on a Furmark stress test, it started throttling speeds once I reached 88C. And I reached 88C pretty quickly, with ambient temps of around 27C. Is that normal behavior?
Perhaps... though I ordered my current card directly from EVGA, so there would be a 15% restocking fee since it's otherwise not defective. But I might get in touch with them to see if I can work something out with them. It would be the easiest route, and overall also the cheapest route as it's...
Hi guys,
I recently built a new PC (a few weeks ago) with a 4790K and a Noctua NH-D15 cooling it. This is all in a Fractal Design R5 case.
I'm thinking of upgrading to water-cooling. Why? Yesterday I received my EVGA 980Ti SC+ ACX+ video card, but I'm not really happy with the temps I'm...
The fans do completely shut off at idle and the custom fan curve I've applied doesn't have them turn on until about 60C. I can of course change that and always have them spinning at about 10%-20% of max speed and then start ramping up >60C.
But the idle temp isn't my main concern, I'm more...
So ran a benchmark last night on my brand spanking new EVGA 980 Ti SC+ ACX+ (see system specs in my signature) on the Unigine Valley benchmark. Ran at 2560x1440 on Ultra settings, no AA. Setup is factory stock, no OC.
