I built a system with a 1700x a few years back and it was solid, on 24/7, until last month. I suspect a lightning storm could have killed it. I was away at work and I couldn't boot to bios when I came home.
(RGB) RAM, CPU fans, case fans, GPU power light and fans would spool or light up for a...
Found the answer, yes, to my model in particular. http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/e6510-1366x768-to-1920x1080-direct-swap.621175/
Thanks for the insight!
I picked up a Dell Latitude e6510 and it has a 1366x768 screen. Other models of the laptop have 1600x900 and 1080p screens. It may be a dumb question but they should be useable on my device right?
I've searched around and haven't found anything good. Here's what I mean by ticker, http://www.specialtystoreservices.com/productdetails.aspx?productid=840&group=&img=4680N.jpg&gclid=CjwKEAjwz_-nBRC0zbDb_YOT1TgSJACW2VEC3RBDY1hMnn9_8k84z0ZHaQTL9WzyroYqxpSGY8hPpBoCJT_w_wcB
There's a Windows Metro...
Mint is a great starting place. I just started using it myself. I've never tried using Linux as a main OS before but Mint is extremely easy and has plenty of functionality out of the box.
If you've used OSX before you might feel right at home. I would dive into the system prefences and check...
I've installed the new hardware and will put it through its paces the next few days. I've stuck with Cinnamon since it seems to be extremely user friendly and this is the first machine on which I'll be using Linux full time.
Here's a little gem I've found from 2008...
I actually have Cinnamon installed on the HDD right now. SSD should be here tomorrow.
Even though it has a bit more eye candy than Xubuntu, it seems to get just as good battery life.
As a test, I've tested the Win 10 Preview and it was nowhere as smooth as either.
I've been using Chromebooks for while and decided to roll my own cheapo laptop. Found a 11.6 Acer with a Celeron N2830 Dual-core 2.16 GHz. It has a spinning HDD and 2GB ram. I'm stoked to see it's running Xubuntu is running quite well and showing 6 hours of battery life. I've ordered an SSD and...
Anyone think if there is a 5.5" model that it could get 2gb as a differentiator from the 4.7"? Everything else could be the same but the 5.5" would be $100 more.
The XPS 13 is very appealing right now, $899 on MS Store (promo code GRADUATION). I know Apple are actually well priced but I'm trying to stay away from Apple, I've owned 2 Macbooks, 4 iPhones, 2 iPads and I've been off of Apple for two years now.
XPS 13 has a glass trackpad as well, the newest...
It works well but I use it maybe less than 10% of the time. It's not essential. If I'm showing someone a document it's nice to scroll thru with it. But I really bought it in thinking Chrome will add more touch gestures and functionality in the near future.
Under Linux the touch screen worked...
