I did a bit of a combo - the elastic bands didn't do quite enough as the only ones I had were a couple of mm's wide. Couldn't find those big rubbery thick ones anywhere. So I did the foam layer underneath which did seem to have a small improvement. I also redistributed the drives in the cages...

Thanks guys - will give the rubber bands and/or foam a try tomorrow night and let you know the results. A picture may be in order too as I feel like the cabling of the sata power is "wrong" somehow having it stick out from the drives so much...

Attention Mid-Range System Builders - Updated 08/01/2015

Has AMD got the "bang for your buck" locked up with respect to video cards currently? Is there an nVidia offering in the same ballpark (comparable price / performance) to either the 7970 or 7950?

Mfenn specs optimized for video encoding

What else separates the Xeon and the i7? Is it more cores? Any negatives aside from no integrated graphics and no overclocking? This is perfect info guys, much appreciated!

Appreciate it. If I go with an i7, which chip would you recommend - and does the motherboard recommendation change to match the i7 or that AsRock Z77 Pro3 is still the way to go?

Mfenn, love your updated mid-range build specs. My budget I can stretch up a few hundred more, maybe $1300. How would you optimize or enhance your build specs for a primarily video encoding rig? I will do some gaming still. Worth considering an i7 over the i5? Thanks, Seismik

Optimal HDD Setup Help

Cool, I will give that a shot. Is a static pagefile the way to go? I read somewhere that letting XP manage the pagefile was still the best thing to do, but it's been a long time since I've heard anything about that and in this era of abundant storage space maybe just creating a big page file...

Ok, thanks for the info guys. Maybe I will just forget about it... my system is pretty quick and I figured I could get a little more speed from what I figure is the biggest bottleneck, my harddrive. But sounds like it's just not worth it.

Image single SATA drive onto a RAID array?

Sorry, I wasn't totally clear. I'm thinking I will buy 2 distinct drives to setup a RAID-0 array, but I wondered if it would be possible to restore my existing single drive image to the new RAID-0 drive... that should dramatically improve my disk I/0 no?
