I’m more tempted to buy the 1060 dell and make up the difference by selling a collectible or a finished side project. Seems like it would be worth it since I’d likely use it every day, unlike my desktop that mostly collects dust.

My desktop is a modified Alienware X51 case with a 3rd gen core i5, nvidia 1060GTX 6GB, SSD and 16GB of Ram. RAM prices kept me from upgrading the rest so it’s a bit lopsided.

It’s very tempting since it’s the update to the Dell Inspiron I was originally looking at Best Buy. The ironic thing is this would be on par with my desktop, but with a far newer processor.

Are you buying Haswell?

+1 My a8-3820 desktop will hold on, but my C2D 2.0GHZ aluminum MacBook could use a change. My wife's MacBook is still rocking intel GMA 950, I wonder how much an improvement haswell would be.... ;)

Is this build ok for gaming. (For my daughter)

I don't think anyone asked, what resolution and size is your monitor set at? My wife also plays sims 3 on my amd x4 640 with a GTX 460 and 6gb of ram. Had the same stuttering issues too and it's a 1680 x 1050 22" 120hz monitor.

Which setup would you choose?

If you plan to use the savings towards a SSD purchase, then definately go this route. As someone who uses office a lot and does a lot of websurfing, the difference between a machine with a slower processor and SSD vs a faster processor and mechanical HD is noticeable even in light uses.
