Putting together a PC for a friend, and wanted to check with you guys. :)

The CPU would be $320 at Newegg, and the card would be $275. The prices are higher at Mwave, but I think on the build we're losing about fifty bucks. And he's the one who doesn't want to actually build it himself, so I guess that's a price he's willing to pay.

Old, lying computer advertisements

Huh, maybe that was it. Looks like they had a 600 mhz chip in 1996, which would definitely have tripped my "wtf" circuits. Though looking around on the internet for information, it also looks like they actually were that fast. So why wasn't that a big deal?

I remember Cyrix, Wal-Mart sold their stuff a lot. I'm thinking of something different, though. I guess I might be misremembering, but I swear I remember ads for things that made absolutely no sense. :p

New computer--weird problem.

Well, ever since I reseated the videocard, it seems to be doing fine. Cable-wiggling doesn't cause problems, either. If it happens again, I'll try different cables. I doubt any pins are broken, though.

Laptop drains battery when not plugged in?

So the battery might have a little bit of wear on it. Maybe it's been used some. It still doesn't seem like a big deal. It seems like it would only ever be noticeable if you were leaving the laptop unplugged for a week at a time, then picking it up and expecting to use it for a few hours.

Well, if by "properly" you mean "Keeping them at as full a charge as possible for as long a time as possible," you'd almost certainly be right. I'm not going to go to annoying lengths to extend my battery life by a few weeks. I bet batteries in my remote control die quicker since I leave them...
