Had similar experiences, so I thought I would chime in.
First, I honestly would suggest you reconsider HDMI. It sounds like you're planning to watch movies (you have a 5.1 system), so it may be your best option, but my experiences with HDMI audio have been almost universally terrible. Displays...
I don't think it's quite fair to just make the blanket assessment that they suck at GPGPU- their floating point performance is severely neutered, but int performance should be unaffected and they do show promise in some benchmarks. I think it will be a very usage-dependent scenario. One thing is...
I don't know if you saw this but you can pick up a 570 for $240:

At that price I think it's the easy choice. Fastest in terms of performance, and price-wise on par with the cheapest of the three cards you've picked.
In terms of...
AMD HD 7970: http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/7000/7970/Pages/radeon-7970.aspx#3
Yes, it will output 4K. Gaming at that resolution seems doubtful though.
Didn't check the lower tier cards, but a quick visit to amd.com will have your answer.
nVidia cards don't seem to...
Faster and cooler than 7970? What has nvidia done?
I'll hold off on final assessments until I see a review I can actually read but so far things are looking very, very good for the green team.
Edit: I'm on my phone but working on rehosting graphs... I'll post them here as they upload...
I'll buy whatever can get me the best performance for however much money I'm looking to spend. That being said, all things being equal (or close enough) I'll take nVidia since I've had _a lot_ less trouble with their binary linux driver than AMD.
I know AMD open sourced their driver, and I'd...

So, at least on paper, the answer is yes.
Will it be enjoyable? Another question entirely...
I'm currently using a Asus VG236H 120 hz monitor as my main monitor and a 60 hz Asus VH242 as my secondary (a bit of a lopsided setup, I know). I use DVI/D to connect to the 120 Hz monitor (mandated by nVidia for 3D Vision) and HDMI through a receiver to get to the 60 hz.
The experience on the...
I don't play WoW personally, but my roommate does. From what I hear down the grapevine, there are certain add-ons that severely hurt performance. Try turning all of your add-ons off and reenabling them one by one until you find one that is killing performance.
Fedora 10 is beautiful, especially if you're running R300-R500 era Radeons. Plymouth is amazing.
OTOH, nvidia drivers are being uncooperative atm. I'll let you know if I have any luck.
Do you have any questions about F10 I might be able to answer for you?
Just a heads up, latest nVidia drivers with 3d acceleration enabled (no workarounds required) for Fedora 9's beta X server have been released. They're live on livna as of a few days ago.
Intel graphics has the only 3d-enabled beta xorg driver IIRC, so if you install that you *should* be able to play any game you were able to play in F8.
Yep, it's the price you pay for the bleeding edge :P.
I'll give it a spin today, if you'd like I can let you guys know as soon as the beta 3d drivers land.
Mine's at about 55 % completion on the torrent.
Just a heads up for any prospective users, no 3d acceleration on nvidia cards due to the experimental xorg release included in F9. You can downgrade to F8's version of Xorg or follow the instructions Here to install a beta nVidia driver with...
