WARM: Pioneer 7400MP XM+MP3 tuner ~$240

Check for latest prices on http://www.pricescan.com. Aside from the Alpine which costs over $600, this is the only one on the market that does both MP3 and XM. Just came out this month. Mine is hopefully shipping today! Can't wait to replace my Aiwa.

3 com cable modem any good?

Being a Cable admin, I can personally vouch for this modem. In lieu of 3Com's cheap modem, I would recommend Toshiba's line of modems, I've had excellent results with these. Toshiba's will provision in under 30seconds!

To SQL experts

You know there's already programs out there that do this. SQL server is a backend. You would need a front end to utilize your database. You could try using ASP, VB, VisualC. My advice, don't reinvent the wheel..find some shareware/freeware software that does this.

anyone seen a toshiba 3100 modem?

Can my ISP see that I'm using more than one IP

You may want to try hooking up 2 pc's to see if it even works. The ethernet properties I manage are setup to only allow one mac address behind each port...basically one computer per port. Chances are, if you can hookup 2 computers, and manage to get them on the network, chances are they don't...

Seeing as www traffic is probably not even 10% of total bandwidth, I'm guessing a proxy server wouldn't be worthwhile.

DHCP Server for a LAN

Load up a crappy little 486 or better with redhat or mandrake and run linuxconf(if you've never used linux before). Linuxconf is a gui...you can turn on dhcp somewhere in there. The nice thing about ISC's dhcp server (www.isc.org)...you can statically assign ip's to individual computers by mac...

Getting identd to work behind SMC Router

Make your pc a DMZ host on your router. That should fix it. ---nevermind :o I would however suggest getting an old pc, and running linux as your nat router instead of a hardware solution. This is what I do currently at my home.

Cisco routers - ethernet property congestion

I've been decreed by management to put in place bandwidth constraints on one of our ethernet properties, which has a 10meg fiber drop. Problem is, they are eating up more bandwidth than we want. Personally, I don't care, but it might affect us in the long run, when bandwidth is more scarce...
