n00b pc gaming performance help

So... an alienware M17x will be soon arriving at my place & I'm kinda average when it comes to PC gaming(I've only now decided to switch from console gaming to pc gaming). Anyway, I would like u guys to do a quick simulation for me. To make it easier let's say that I will only be playing...

Increase workload but not overclock

I just wanted to know what I should do to have my CPU & GPU work at near 100% Attention : This has noting to do with overclocking. Just plain & simple, give more stress to the GPU(& CPU if needed...) I have seen many people with their GPU only working at 50-60%, even on games like Crysis...

Thx. Btw... since we're on topic, so as to not create another thread, do u know of any programs that can tell ur FPS while in game, apart from fraps? I say this cz fraps makes the FPS drop when using it, but I heard there were a couple others that didn't have this problem, or at least...
