The reason read errors are troublesome even though the disc may play fine in a standalone is that you have no way to back up or make another copy of the disc.
As to the question of Yi Jhan or Longten in 50- or 100-spindles...I ordered a spindle of 100. The original shipment was Yi Jhan and the...
Okay, after being somewhat encouraged that the disc I burned played all the way through, I took another step and tried backing that disc up. Complete failure. Tried doing it by copying (unencrypted files of course), using dvdshrink, dvddecrypter, smartripper...everything failed with read error...
Got the replacement shipment for the YiJahns and these ones are longten001. They have a white star near the center of the disc.
Burned one and verify failed, so I ran a read-error test in dvdinfopro. Hundreds of blocks with errors.
Then I decided to throw it in another drive and run the test...
Question for folks using NEC-1300A drives:
If you're getting successful burns, are the discs you have YI JHAN or LONGTEN?
It seems the problems might be with the YI JHAN discs.
I just talked to a Shop4Tech guy and he said I can either return them for refund or exchange. He suggested the...
Sorry should have said these show up as "Yi Jhan 001" in DVDInfoPro. "Yi Jhan 001" was added by Herrie I think under a generic writing strategy in firmware 1.08v2. It's in the list of media added in the official 1.09 firmware.
[edit: quickly looking over release notes for firmwares 1.08-1.0A, I...
I got a spindle of 100 of these yesterday. They don't have any visible physical defects (scratches or discoloration). I have, however gotten 100% failure on the 4 discs I have tried so far.
I have an NEC-1300A based dvd recorder. The original firmware was 1.07, which would not even recognize...
Just a question for those who burn with no problems and then wind up have playback problems:
- Are you using Nero 6?
- If you are, do you use the verify option?
I always have verify turned on. Many times the burn will complete with no problems, but the verify will fail. When I check the disc...
I don't know what plans they're offering now but I am dealing with retention this week because my Vision phone (LG5350) refuses to do a pc connection and they're bending over backwards to send me new phones and to make me happy. I think the general attitude is still to keep good customers...
If you happened to get a Clie NX-60 last week at Circuit City with a pricematch to CUSA ($279.99), go back to CC this week and get a free $25 gift card. It's in the Sunday newspaper ad: gift card with any Palm OS pda.
Well, that's a surprise. I ordered the free battery for the A500 on the website last Thursday and it arrived today via Airborne Express. What's more, I was expecting a standard battery, but they sent an extended battery instead!
[edit] This 2 phone/$200 rebate is good at any retailer. Eligible phones are LG-1010, Samsung A460, Kyocera 2255, Samsung N240, Kyocera 2345, Sanyo 6200, Sanyo 5150, LG 4nE1, Kyocera 1135, PCS9155sp, Samsung I300 and the Sierra Aircard 510.
Here's what I got for a retention plan tonight. I hope it's a good deal.
What we had:

TIMEKEEPER: Two questions if you have a sec:
(1) the belt holster: do they just hand it to you with the car charger and earbud? I was at my Costco tonight and the "Exclusively for Costco Members" card that was on the stand didn't mention that. It did say $35 service credit, free 12 months Voice...
