Nip, as long as you're not using XP 32 bit, it'll be fine. Do a search on the net for a guy named Venturi, he's been runnning this board w/ 16GB for months now along with dual dual core 275s. Also, I'd definitely say get the 2x246 Opterons over a single dual core. You'll need that 2nd CPU...

Prescott: What would you have done?

If I was a Prescott engineer I would have included a grill attached to the heatsink. That way I could cook my breakfast in the morning w/o wasting additional electricity (even though the oven is probably a lot more efficient in its energy consumption)....

Whoose into Star Trek around here?

I cried when they announced Enterprise was cancelled (not really, but I wanted to). It will be the first time in 25+ years there's not a Trek show or movie in the works. Enterprise has really gotten good the last 2 years, some of the best Trek I've ever seen. I was really looking forward to what...

A question for people using the Silicon Image RAID chip (on a8n-sli for example)

Hmm, is the NV4 chipset known for locks up? I'm planning on RAIDing from it, and stability and reliability are my top priorities. Hearing things like this scares me.

Video Editing Computer

Very nice. Are you (or she actually) happy with it? I too am looking to make a new video editing machine (with gaming as a secondary function) and keep going around in circles on the whole multi/single processor issue.

gobucks, I heard it here on this forum, there are at least a few threads floating around where people were saying that their drives would drop with the A8N, specifically the DiamondMax and raptors. They'd have to do a hard reset and then it was still iffy if they'd come back. I did not want to...

My understanding is that the NV4 chipset and thus of course motherboard support NCQ, but that the NVIDIA drivers do not yet. You can turn NCQ on from device manager, but nobody seems to have had success in doing so (results in large scale data corruption). So until NVIDIA releases new drivers...
