Well, a week after the build and I couldn't be happier, honestly. It's dead quiet, SUPER cool and mind-blowingly fast.
Thanks for all the feedback and help, y'all.
The only downside is that my wife is now pretty hella jealous and I'm now having to build her a similar rig, but with a...
Tonight I build my new rig and would love feedback on what I have planned and if I need to place the 4th case fan that I have.
Components:
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 5 ATX LGA1151...
Alright, based on suggestions, I made the following changes:
- 850 Pro instead of the 950 Pro I had originally.
- Nctura DH15 instead of the liquid cooling (the case and RAM have enough clearance)
- Bumped up the PSU to 850w to make sure I have plenty of clearance for a 2nd Ti, if I decide...
This is my first new rig in a LONG time and after weeks of research & a first round of suggestions, this is what I've come up with. This will be for gaming (eventually 4K), some video editing, and general use. Once the prices come down a bit, I'll be getting a 2nd 980 Ti video card, so that...
The new Samsung 950 Pro M.2 SSD is coming mid month that apparently is a big jump in performance vs the 850's...I'm waiting for them to pull the trigger, fwiw.
Great feedback, thanks, y'all.
As for the cooler, I can be convinced to not go with the Nepton, but I really want to shy away from the uber-giant air coolers for a CPU. I can look deeper into other options, however. I wouldn't mind other suggestions other than the massive-giants, though. :)...
My poor old rig is now 8 years old (don't laugh too hard) and for my birthday, my wife sprung on me that I could build its replacement.
So after weeks of hemming & hawing (and lots of research since I've been out of the game for a number of years), here are my choices. I encourage helpful input...
I've been out of the game for a number of years and am getting back into building my own rig (http://pcpartpicker.com/p/GZyjrH if you're curious). Based on that and leaving room for potential SLI in the future, is appears that a 600 watt PSU would be enough...but is there a certain threshold of...
I searched and the last thread on this was 3+ years old, so thought I'd ask...
What do you listen to for gaming (PC & console)?
Giantbombcast is my #1 and haven't found anything else close to it.
What ya got?
The thing you guys are missing is that you're paying retail if you build your own rig. These guys buy in bulk and it'll be considerably cheaper. IMO, you guys are way off here.
