if you need an optical output you can build a circuit to convert from coax to optical easy enough even if you dont have electronics experience check out this site for plans, you will just have to search for the plans

how far do you get in installing w2k, what happens?
when first installing w2k leave it in fat 32, you can change it later when you get it up and running. if you have another win os and if you have partitions or another drive, install w2k on one of them because it alows you to run it on a drive...
while the prices in canada are more expensive i have found that it is still cheaper to buy computer stuff here, you just have to shop around. i just recently bought a stick of 128 mb ram for 65 bucks, to the guy that got the mushkin ram for about the same price you paid i could get 264 mb on...
the best way i have found is to get the plastic sheets for cds that fit in a binder. they look like the sheets that you used to put baseball cards in as a kid. they hold 4 cds per page and cost pennies per sheet
if all you will be using the modem for is the occasional fax or if your dsl goes out i suggest a noname cheap winmodem. i know they can suck but for the price you cant beat them. i have seen them as low as 10 bucks canadian (= approx. 6 bucks us).
i just upgraded my computer and blew the budget on a 1GHz athlon. i have an msi motherboard with on board sound and i still have the sound card from my old computer. if i could i would like to use theses two devices together.

are you sure it is the speakers. they are an out only device and should have no affect on the video unless they are too close to the monitor. this should really have no affect but you never know. try a different set of speakers or degaussing your screen.
