8500DV and choppy game play?

I upgraded from an ATI AIW Radeon 32MB AGP. I had it working on Windows 2000 perfectly. Before I moved to Windows XP Pro, I tried my 8500DV on Windows 2000 also, same result. Choppy game play. I've unplugged my NIC and Audigy card, so all I have left is the 8500DV and my Adaptec 29160 SCSI...

Tried them. Anyway, they aren't much newer, they just enable smoothvision and a couple of other things. This is using Windows XP Pro.

8500DV and choppy game play?

Just got an ATI AIW Radeon 8500DV and using the CD-ROM supplied drivers, all games I play are choppy and low in frame-rate. Unreal Tournament is slow, maybe 5 FPS, Midtown Madness is the same, etc. Anyone got any suggestions for me to try and speed things up? I have an A7M266, BIOS 1005...

A7M266 or GA-7DXR?

Which one is perferable from these two? Some points to bear in mind with my usage: 1) I will not be overclocking 2) I will not be using RAID as I have SCSI 3) I will not be using on-board sound I realize these are more or less the same board, but I'd be interested to hear opinions on why one...

What should I buy?

On the whole, you can't go wrong with Asus. I would say this list: Asus A7M266 (AMD 760 chipset) Asus A7V266-E (VIA KT266A chipset) Giga-byte GA-7DXR (AMD 760 chipset) Giga-byte GA-7VTXE (VIA KT266A chipset) The last one can be had for as little as $100. I recommend any of the above boards...

New AMD CPU & Motherboard?

Well, I'm enjoying total stability on my A7M266, but it's currently $140 to buy. I would say a real good budget board is the ECS K7S5A, round about $50-80. I've heard a lot of people with success stories using this board.

How much voltage does the 3 pin cpu fan connector on the motherboard supply?

Not being an electronics expert, not sure about the volts, but I do know the 3-pin motherboard headers vary in power from 2-5 watts. For example, my A7M266 board supplies 4.2 watts on each header, that is 350mA (milliamps), or 0.35A. Any fan plugged into the 3-pin header on this board...

Yes, it's these "workable" settings I've tried. I have the 1005 BIOS, have set all IDE channels to "none", and also the other option, "On-board IDE controller" to "disabled". I'm still puzzled why W2K is showing it. To me, if I disable IDE, I don't expect to see it in W2K, I also don't expect...

Best KT266A board? (no overclocking required)

I'm looking for a good, STABLE, KT266A board. My choices right now are Giga-byte or Asus. Only suggest those brands as I've had them before and they've been fairly good. RAID isn't required, actually, neither is IDE, because I have a SCSI adapter. I don't need onboard sound or NIC, my PCI...
