Well, I have a cd burner that had like a 3/5 burn failure rate. It was pretty much a coaster factory. What I did was pop the side of the case off, tilt the tower against my desk, and stick a desk fan (set on HIGH with the blade guards removed) right up against the chassis. I have had a grand...
So what's the advantage (other than not losing data youre currently working on) over battery back up vs. good surge protection? Battery is really pricey compared to plain old surge protection.
why dont you just take it apart? i am sure the platters would be nice nerd-memorabilia. I have an old pentium 1 chip and 4" B&W television tube decorating my workspace.
I was in the middle of reinstalling win2kpro when I realized that I didn't have my CD Key and I stopped right in the middle. When I restart, I am given the option of selecting either win2kpro or the setup (as if I had dual-booted). Any way to get rid of this?
I partitioned my 2 new WD SE 120 gig HDD's the other day and filled one of them with approximately 40 G of data. Yesterday I wanted to partition the one with data (using partition magic, partitioning the free space.) Problem is, Partition Magic reports that the partitions were created under a...
Thanks for your reply. What I mean is that if I currently have a fresh install of all OS's, I already have a clean registry (I just did it yesterday). If I image the drive now, would restoring the drive from the clean image provide any benefit? Thanks.
Ok, I want to re-install my operating systems every now and then but I dont want to go through the trouble of making all the windows and Linux partitions every time I do. Since I have a dedicated boot drive, could I just set up an image of the drive, format, and restore from that image to...
But the 40 gig has one platter and the 120 gig has 3 platters. The 40 gig is actually below the 120s so its not the rising heat. I am asking because if there is a problem (ie: the drive is slowly cooking itself) i want to RMA it asap.
I have a case that supports 4 80 mm fans (front, rear, top, side). I know that the front is the intake, rear is exhaust, but what about top and side????
I have 3 WD special edition drives. 2 120 gig storage drives and a 40 gig boot drive. Strangely, the 40 gig one runs really hot, but the 120 gig ones manage to stay quite cool. Is this because I have the OS running? Any ideas?
