Just out of curiousity, Which M/B and memory type are you using? Did you have to up the voltage settings for the CPU or memory? Also, do you have the equivalent of "Performance Mode" or "Memory Acceleration Mode" enabled (ASUS M/B options)?
Paunja, if you installed PC-Cillin 2002 (came with the ASUS disk), delete the the program. I had similar issues: sometimes the 3Com network adapter was detected and sometimes it wasn't. This was very noticeable when connected to the Internet. Hope this helps.
Paunja, if you installed and are using PC-Cillin 2002 that came with the ASUS disk, uninstall it. I had the same problem with the 3com lan but once I uninstalled the Anti-Virus program everything cleared up.
